Welcome to the 2021 NCAA basketball bracket challenge!!  We will again be using ESPN.  (I plan to boycott due to the pandemic..., but if I can't figure a way to pick COVID as the overall winner, I may jump in at the last minute.)

Directions to join the group:

  • Go to this link: https://fantasy.espn...racket/2021/en/
  • Click on [Log In] (in the upper right-hand corner) to create an account, if you haven't already, and to login.  (After signing up, a popup asks you to enter your preferred ESPN name.  Since this is global, you may need to get creative to find a unique name.)  Then..
  • Click on [Create a Bracket Now!] to make your picks: https://fantasy.espn...t/2021/en/entry.  (You may need to make your picks before you can join our group.)  Next..
  • Click on [Create or Join a Group] to join our group: https://fantasy.espn...21/en/groupfind.  In the SEARCH GROUPS field enter "Team Red Lizard" and click [Search Groups] button.  Click on the Team Red Lizard group name, and then click on [Join Group] (a little below the Team Red Lizard logo) or [Rejoin], if you participated last year.  Use the Group Password: running.
  • To edit your name as it appears in our group (i.e. the name of your bracket), use the My Bracket drop down menu to select you bracket.  Then click on the gear icon.

Your picks need to be made before tip-off Friday morning, March 19th.  The scoring is similar to previous years.

Any questions, problems...?

I could dig deeper..., but then I'd be further in a hole.

First day is done and, as normal, most of us are way above average nationally. This seems to be the only place to chatter. Hi folks!

Pretty happy about my Oregon State and Syracuse picks. Hopefully Oregon will come through tomorrow!

This is now the wildest year I've ever seen. I thought it would be unpredictable, but seriously...Oral Roberts in the Sweet Sixteen? Who would ever have guessed. As of today, the average seed of teams in the Sweet 16 is 7.

Wow!

Wild indeed.  At one point in the 2nd round Yahoo had Oregon beating Oregon.

Sweet Sixteen and susan has been eliminated.  ralovett is looking rosy with a 58% chance of taking the crown for the third time in the modern era, followed by carreh (25%), dudeman (12%), and andicamp (5%).

This Sunday dudeman and andicamp are dunzo if Michigan doesn't top Florida State.

Comparing brackets, though, at this point I like Carre's chances better than mine. I need something bad to happen to Baylor. I was expecting it to be Ohio State. Though Oral Roberts in the Final Four wouldn't hurt me. Other than the shock...

andicamp and dudeman stave off elimination.  The followers have closed the gap on ralovett (47%)--carreh (1 in 4), andicamp (16%), and dudeman (1 in 8).

Half of the remaining teams are from the Left Coast (more COVID considerations, lower mortality rate..thus far).

Must wins going into the Elite Eight are: dudeman (USC and Michigan), carreh (UCLA and Baylor), and andicamp (Michigan and Baylor).

ralovett was correct.  Baylor won and carreh (540 pts, 8 in 16 chance of win) and andicamp (520, 5 in 16) swept past ralovett (510, 1 in 16) into the lead, while dudeman is still alive (420, 2 in 16).

Tomorrow the opening game will send one person packing: ralovett (Gonzaga) vs. dudeman (USC).  The nightcap is another elimination game: carreh (UCLA) vs. andicamp & ralovett/dudeman (Michigan).  So if UCLA wins, carreh clinches her first title.  Otherwise, our competition proceeds to the Final Four where andicamp will face off with ralovett or dudeman.

I could dig deeper..., but then I'd be further in a hole.

Congrats to carreh (780 pts) on her victory. Rounding out the podium are andicamp (760) and ralovett (750) in another close finish.
