On my run with my daughter this evening, we encountered a string of horse manure almost 100m long. On a city bike trail (Springwater eastbound over Hwy 99). At 5:30 at night. WTH? Any other PDX based runners run into horses? I could totally understand this if this was Forest Park or another actual trail but does anyone know if equines are allowed on paved trails?
Just a very odd occurrence. I'd take it as an omen for my impending race comeback at the Lake Run but I can't think of a good omen to be had from it...

Horses on the Springwater is actually not at all unusual, but it's more common closer to Powell Butte and out toward Boring, where there are homes with horses. Between Powell Butte and Boring you can "run into" horses pretty frequently. Judging by the long string of "road apples" the horse was probably just as startled by the runners and bikers it encountered as they were

Sure, blame it on the horse.

Personally, I'd say it takes a pretty brave rider or Valium-doped horse to ride with all those bicycles. But I'm pretty sure they're permitted. This is the Wild West.
