The 5th Annual White Salmon Backyard Half trail run is happening Saturday, June 16th at 10:00 am. Sign up at: http://ultrasignup.c....aspx?did=15885
Once again, it is FREE to enter! Or, if you can spare a little change, a suggested donation of $10, or less or more, will go to the White Salmon Columbia High School Cross Country Team. Who, by the way, will be staffing all the aid stations!
It will start and finish right in front of Everybody's Brewing brewpub and loop up and around Hospital Hill, with 1,800+ feet of elevation gain. The motivation to finish the loop will be making it back to the brewpub for some great beer and food!
The other motivation is to get to the top of Hospital Hill to see the awesome views of the Gorge!
Last year we had 208 runners participate! Hopefully this year we will get more people to participate and donate to the cross country team! Also, all the runners donated over $2,500 for the cross country team last year! Hopefully this year we can make their goal of $3,000. We were so close! Hopefully this year we can cover their costs for the whole season. The Cross Country team is completely self funded by donations.

Most definitely Torrey! Just got an email from Allan the race director, he gave the Red Lizards a challenge to try and bring 20 people this year. Let's do it!
Bump.
I was just about to sign up for Helvetia when I stumbled upon this race.
Kelbelle put together a great photo diary of last year's race here:
Mile by mile photos
1800 feet of elevation gain is a bit hard to swallow so I'll wait until May to decide if I'm going to do this or Helvetia but the pictures have me leaning heavily towards White Salmon.
A mighty fine excuse to start running the Goose every week.

What is the latest we can sign up? I have a marathon June 2nd,and want to see how I feel afterwards
I believe you can register the day of, but it's pretty busy. That should be plenty of time for your recover depending on how hard you run your marathon. Even if you do sign up, it's only a $10 donation fee and if you don't show, well then you will feel good about donating your money to the schools.

Hello Runners!
There is a lot going on at this years WS Backyard Half! Read below for more details.
This year we have teamed up with the White Salmon Pool Fundraiser so there will be plenty of entertainment for the whole family starting with the run at 10:00 am and going until 8:00 pm.
If you have not signed up yet, follow the link below to sign up. It is free to sign up and when you show up all you have to do is sign the waiver and get your race number. Plus it makes it easier for me. :-)

Start/Finish
The start/finish has moved around the corner from Everybody's Brewing to Rheingarten Park at N. Main Ave and NW Washington St.
Start is at 10:00 am.
There will be a masseuse providing massages for $1 per minute with all the proceeds going to the cross country team.
Skyline Hospital will be providing free physical therapy.
Charter Communications will be giving away some freebies.
Course
The course has a few changes this year, due to storm damage.
The course is about 1/2 mile longer with a really steep section for a mile starting at about the 3.6 mile mark.
There will be 3 aid stations with an additional "light" aid station at the start of the steep climb.
The first full aid station is about 40 minutes to over an hour from the start depending on how quick you are, so make sure to bring a water bottle. Especially if it is hot!
Entertainment and Food
Music at the finish:
The Pollytones will be playing from 11:30 am to about 3:00 pm, with an eclectic mix of originals and select covers.
Henni's Pig Roast pool fundraiser:
Food served from 11:30 AM until 8:00 PM
Menu: Spit roasted pig, Texas beans, Mac and Cheese, Buttermilk coleslaw. All for $5 !!
A beer and wine garden. $5 will get you a beer or wine!
Music by Drivin from 4 to 5 PM, and Tony Smiley from 5 to 8 pm.
And… The Gorge Roller Derby Girls demo, Gorge Belly Dancers, ZUMBA dancers, raffles and games!
Hopefully you can make it out this year!
