Has anyone been to Dabney State Park off of Hwy 84? It says you can swim there and they allow boats, so how big is the lake or pond?

Looks like it's right on the Sandy River. I wonder how far you can swim before you run into shallow water?
Sorry, that was no help. I was actuaaly thinking of organizing some sort of swim in the Willamette here in West Linn or Geo Rogers. I think if we could recruit someone to follow us in a canoe (I have one we can use) we would be just fine. Anyone interested? Next Weds eve, then we could ride intervals on Old River and 43 afterward. Drew? Koop? Joe T? Susan? If you go to Dabney, will you let us know how it was? It would be nice to find another option for an open water swim. Oh, One more thing: I heard that Lake Merwin up in Wash is pretty nice if you have time to drive. |

Dabney is on the Sandy River and, my opinion, would not be suitable for swim training. Lake Merwin would be excellent. Hey, if you need someone to paddle the canoe as you swim I can help. And I'll bring my bike. -------------------- Normal people scare me.

I have to work next Wednesday evening, but if you decide to do something like this Tues, Thurs, or Fri evening I'd be interested in joining. |

I'm out of the swim game for the time being. I have been up to Merwin several times though and it's excellent. It's got cool and very clean clear water. It's the Woodland exit off of I-5 north of Vancouver.
The closest spot to PDX I've gone to is the beach on the Columbia right next to the airport runways. You just have to swim back and forth parallel to the beach and watch out for PWCs and submerged pilings. There are also groups swimming all the time at Klineline Pond up in Vancouver, but good luck getting up there during rush hour if you're trying to go after work. According to their website the Gecko Tri Club meets there 7pm on Wed nights. Open water beats the pool any day of the week! |
