So they pass the Kelbelle test?  happy.gif

But not the Trail Kelly test. ;-)

I'm sorry, Joe, but those yellow shorts are ugly (style and color), although they were a very convenient way to spot you in any race -- "Look, up ahead, those yellow shorts -- it must be JOE DUDMAN!!" (Jenny-Kelly conversation mid-Portland marathon one year ;-) )

As a viewer -- well, if you've got the body, I like to see the guys in the split shorts. The longer ones look funny, IMO, and bunch up. (although try telling that to my high schoolers!!) I do appreciate it when my guy friends wear their splits shorts in races & I can see the tan lines! ;-) But older, heavier guys? Full coverage might be more appealing.

But maybe I'm being hypocritical, but the less-is-more theory does not apply to women running in "briefs/ bunhuggers". I like my split shorts, but also my Brooks vibe shorts, both of which I think are flattering on me and are always my first choice. Bunhuggers? Never, ever.

On the other end of the spectrum, as comfy (and full coverage) as some of the longer shorts are, honestly, they don't look very good (they make my legs look even shorter!).

All styles have their supporters with their own reasons for their choice, though. Bottom line, is whatever makes you feel most comfortable is the one you should wear.

PS My friend Gwen gave me some old running outfits to give to my team (this was several years ago). I unearthed them last week and we just laughed

laugh.gif Would you believe one-piece racing suits (like bathing suits)?? I can hardly believe that Nike Portland, for years, raced in those things. My girls were astonished -- they thought they were swim suits! Ugh!!!! If anyone wants them, however, let me know! I don't think Goodwill is going to want them! happy.png

When you think, "Running Shorts,

Where do compression shorts come into play? I wear them all the time.....

I've never been hassled, ridiculed, or put in verbal stockade when wearing split shorts. But I'm still burdened with the name Spandex Man from some of my younger running partners from years ago. And "no" I'm not going to post any photos.

Those AREN'T bunhuggers!! -- they aren't tight or short enough. Check college track photos for the "look." But I grant you, that that particular girl would look fine in themt. Alas, 99% of women don't look like her. happy.png

I guess I should note a disclaimer: when rowing in college, we wore spandex (well lycra blend) unisuits. They're hot. Spandex is a rower's best friend.

Holy Crap, who is that? Does she live in Portland? And if so, how come no one's invited her into the club?

I'm hiding her. She's in my closet and I let her out to run every day.....

One drawback to short shorts on guys is it can look kind of twee with nothing but legs sticking out from under a running jacket before or after a race. (Sorry, no photos to illustrate this). I'm sure our mystery girl would look just fine, though!

Here she is again. The pic is from a race in Miami called the Ocean Drive 5k. Her name is Janna Narke, she's 27, ran a 26:22 5k and likes long walks on the beach. She also likes fine dining.

Here's another pic...
