I am running with a Reed sponsored team this year of unknown speed. I figure they will be estimated at 27 or so hours. Any guess when we will have to start? I haven't run these past few years with the earlier start times.

Start times come out this weekend at packet pickup. My team was 27 hours last year and we started around  2 or 3 as I remember. They changed it up last year so that there was a mix of faster and slower teams going off in each wave (we were with one of the Lizard teams and some other fastholes for the first couple of legs). It did cut down on traffic until the usual choke points in the coast range.

Interesting. I would have thought it would have messed up the competitive aspect. Anyway we will see. I am only starting to train now a'la Matt Zaffino so I am gonna be hurting regardless

Paul,

Glad to hear you are running again.  My team is starting at 11:30 am again this year.  As far as I can tell, the other teams in our wave are all slow (like last year).  Last year, we had a lead 50m into the "race" and by the end of the first leg, we were all alone and never wound up running against anyone at all.  By leg 13, we were only with walkers and HS teams.  The only team to catch us was the winning Japanese team.  HTC has become so non-competitive it's ridiculous.  Some similar teams to ours are starting at 1:30 or 2:15 pm, but for some reason we are by ourselves and of course, they won't change it.  Running a time trial is kind of silly.

Kelly our start time is at 1:30 pm and we are projected at 28 hours.  I hope we'll be seeing some other teams.  You should pass us middle of the night it sounds like!

Leapin Lizards and Slughunters are both at 1:30 as well. Usually that means all of the fasthole teams start there as well, but you never know with HTC.

We start at 245. Last year we were with a bunch of faster teams at the start through about leg 5. We ran into the usual traffic cluster fuck in the coast range.
