Welcome to the 2018 NCAA bracket challenge!!  This year we've moved to ESPN.  (1080 the Fan, that we've used previously, doesn't appear to have a challenge this year.  Would you prefer to use someone other than ESPN?)

Directions to join the group.

  • Go to this link: http://games.espn.co...t/2018/en/entry
  • Click on [Log In] (in the upper right-hand corner) to create an account, if you haven't already, and to login.  (After signing up, a popup asks you to enter your preferred ESPN name.  Since this is global, you may need to get creative to find a unique name.)  Then..
  • Make your picks here: http://games.espn.co...t/2018/en/entry.  (You need to make your picks before you can join our group.)  Next..
  • Join our group here: http://games.espn.co...groupID=2345796.  Click on [Join Group] (a little below the Team Red Lizard logo).  Use the Group Password: running.

Your picks need to be made before tip-off this Thursday morning.  The scoring is similar to previous years.

Any questions, problems...?

OK, I think I'm in. Not very happy with this year's bracket. With a small group, btw, Dummy will be hard to beat.

Where's Susan??

Ha! ESPN first says there's already an account set up with my email address, but when I click through the "Forgot my password" process, it says there's no account associated with that email address

Oh well, it seemed to work with my "backup" email address :thumbsu:

Now I just need to come up with my totally random picks, since I haven't paid any attention whatsoever to college basketball this year (that means I'm a shoo-in to win the bracket, right?)

I'm in as HopeI'mRight.  I got tired of variations of Susan and just went totally random, but yet something I'd remember :)

Where's all the usual chatter? Is there a chat section on the ESPN page?

I don't see a chat section on the ESPN page...

After the first round the top three are:

1 hatfield 260

2 brewdad 240

T3 susanb 230

T3 dudeman 230

But in the random world, with 15 of her sweet 16 and all of her elite 8 still alive, susanb is the favorite, and no one has been eliminated:

susanb 36%
brewdad 20%
dudeman 17%
hatfield 10%
andicamp 9%
erock 7%
ralovett 4%
gonova 2%

Surprisingly gonova appears destined for the door, but it's because she's being blanketed by hatfield and brewdad, who have similar picks.

MSU is out. That does not work in my favor...

Yes, hard to imagine how that could work in your favor.  Doesn't help me either.

March Madness!  Nine teams seeded lower than 4 advanced to the Sweet 16.  Three 5's, two 7's, two 9's, and two 11's.  A very ODD year.

Defending champ dudeman goes charging into the lead:

1 dudeman 430

T2 brewdad 400

T2 hatfield 400

Random chances of winning (including ties):

dudeman 27%

brewdad 19%

ralovett 16%

susanb 15%

erock 11%

gonova 11%

hatfield 8%

andicamp makes an early exit.  And going into the 3rd round, three contestants face a death match:

erock & hatfield (Purdue) VS gonova (Texas Tech)

(That is if Gonzaga beats Florida State on Thursday.  Otherwise gonova will already be toast. :-) )

I could dig deeper..., but then I'd be further in a hole.

This has been a seriously wild tournament. I"m surprised so many of us (especially me) still have enough teams in play to have a chance of making up the gap.

Oh great!  I can get eliminated four different ways today.  'Nova is alive for now, but gonova is gone.  And brewdad has jumped back into the lead and almost assured himself of a place on the podium.

Random chances of winning:

brewdad 43%

susanb 26%

ralovett 22%

dudeman 12%

erock 4%

hatfield 2%

Must-win games:

hatfield (Villanova, Purdue, Clemson, Syracuse)

erock (Purdue)

dudeman (Duke)

I can't believe I'm the favorite right now. My bracket was shot into the sun when Cincinnati lost. I had them losing in the final game. I guess that might help out some others make up ground in the late rounds.

brewdad and dudeman have distanced themselves from the pack, but ralovett could come back.

hatfield, erock, and susanb are out.

Random chances of winning (including ties):

brewdad 62.5% (wins unless...)

dudeman 25% (wins outright if Duke makes final)

ralovett 25% (wins if Kansas makes final. outright if additionally Villanova doesn't make final four, otherwise ties brewdad)

Going into the Final Four, brewdad is dormy, but ralovett can join him on top of the podium if Kansas tops Villanova in the semis.
