For those who love our Labor Day adventures and like to plan ahead, I haven't forgotten about Labor Day. Just throwing out an option here, but I would love to head up to The Enchantments in north-central Washington. It is probably the equivalent of the Wallowas in terms of popularity, but the beauty of day-trips into the wilderness is that we avoid all of the permit lottery craziness.
All you need to do is google "Enchantments" to get a glimpse of this beautiful area, or I will save you a step and post one of the many links with photos and info:
Or you can always visit the boring Forest Service site for info:
The general details:
About 5 hour drive to Leavenworth
There is a string of forest service campgrounds along Icicle Creek Road, with Eightmile and Bridge Creek being the 2 closest to the primary trailheads leading into the Enchantments
Due to popularity and the drive distance, we would probably want to do similar timing to what we have done for the Wallowas - head over on Wed to secure sites
If we did a Wed-Mon trip, that would give us 4 full days there (Thurs-Sun) to run and explore
If we do this, there will be at least one epicly long day, since I would love to do the 19-mile point-to-point route that climbs up and over Aasgard Pass. Although I suspect most of the trails we run will provide plenty of climbing (similar to the Wallowas), although scenery that is equally as great.
