If anyone cares, Mike H. ran 1600s of approx. 5:04+5:01(10:05)+4:51(14:56). And his last 800 in 2:18. That's the way to do it!

Yeah, why didn't I think of that?! whistle.png wink.gif

I just threw on an old pair of Torreybeaters at the last minute poke.gif

Honestly, I was surprised I finished ahead of several Lizards. If you saw me immediately after the race, you could tell I really had to work to finish where I did!

Because you are older and Lieutenant Mike H is young and smart! Just kiddin'...it was good seeing one of the Air Force's new leaders do so well...can you believe that kid outranks me now! But he'll always remember where his training came from...he's going to make a great officer!

yeah, I know - a lot easier said than done, right? i'm always impressed when people run negative splits like that. but i would guess your splits were pretty even. it's not that you slowed down, moreso that Mike sped up causing that gap to develop. nice race, Joe.

I don't see Danny G. in the results. Was he a DNF?

Yes, he dropped out around mile 2. Hamstring was bugging him (which could also be code for "Torrey and Joe are ahead of me and I don't feel energetic enough to pass them, and i sure as heck don't want either of them to beat me" poke.gif tongue.gif). I didn't get to chat with him afterwards, since Sara and Alexis were getting cold, so they took off. I think he was just being smart; hopefully he's alright.

They worked well... I think one or both of these "Torreybeaters" must have fallen off and I collided with them or had them jump on my back some time in that last mile sad.gif

My first track 5k experience seemed pretty good (for the first 2/3)... I recalled thiking how quickly we were clicking off the laps. But then I think the reality of my past track experience started to settle in... 4 laps to go (hey, that's the same number of laps as the longest race you've ever run on a track up to this point). 2 laps to go (I know this distance... I used to race it all the time, back in college... it sure seemed like a long race then, and i wasn't already fatigued when i was starting it then).

One of these days I would like to do one when I'm fully prepared (esp. mentally). I couldn't have asked for a better field to be racing with than what we had Friday. A pack of veterans to set the initial pace (which I am admittedly not good at). A familar person to be chasing. A pack of people behind me to keep me running scared. I walked away from it with a slight, but still new, PR. And it's still soft compared to what i think i could do on a good day. I'm over my fear of the track 5k, so now it's a matter of figuring out when and where the next opportunity will be. Start thinking about next year, since I think a Lizard 5k track championships may become an annual tradition!

it was fun watching last night. seeing the speed you guys exhibited certainly reinforced my decision not to jump in a 5k! great racing, everyone. Danimal, you're catching up to the "big guns"! I was 5:39, 5:46 and 5:46. Darn happy with that. thumbsup.png

Ummm...you might have to buy the race directors beer.

Why not make it every six months?

My first mile was 5:08. I didn't take another split until 4 laps to go (5:41 for 4.5 laps), but I think I heard Diep say 10:12 at two miles, which would be 5:04 shocked.png And I got another 5:04 on my watch for the last mile. Yikes!

Torrey, try a 10k or two on the track. They'll make the 5k seem a lot shorter yes.gif wink.gif wacko.gif
And yes, we definitely need to do another one of these... when I feel better tongue.gif

It's a simple question of weight ratios

My splits were 6:29, 6:33 and 6:35 so I faded a little but not too badly.
