Here it is, the official listing of rules, races, and eventually standings for the 2016 Summer Series.

Scoring will be tracked 2 ways.

1. Place = score based on how you place in the best 5 of 8 events.

2. Participation = # races you compete in.

Prizes will be distributed at the end of the series, when we hold the Summer Sizzler.  The top 5 male and female finishers in both the participation and place categories* will be eligible for the grand prize drawings.  A prize committee has been working on tracking down some high value awards to offer up, so plan to jump into as many Summer Series races as you can.  And even if you don't win prizes, you are at least assured that if you add the following races to your spring and summer racing calendar there will be plenty of fellow Lizards there to hang out with - and odds are good there will be some carpool and post-race food/drink options planned as each race approaches.

*no double dipping, so someone who competes in 7 of 8 events and is also in the top 5 will make the "place" list, and the person competing in the next highest number of events will be selected.  In case of a participation tie, the place list will be used to break the tie.

The "Place" rankings will be calculated using the same formula in the past, where the top male and female finisher will receive 100 points, the last will get 20, and the points for everyone between will be evenly distributed.  This year the top 5 placers will top our list.

The twist this year is that the next 5 people in the standings will be based on how many races have been competed in by everyone else.  It doesn't matter where people are at in the place-based standings once we look at the next 5 places based on participation.  If someone does 7 or 8 races, they are very likely to make the participation-based standings.  But it might turn out that we have 7 or 8 people who have all done 4 races.  If that is the case, then we will decide who the 5 participant winners will be by sorting those 7 (or 8) people in a tie by how they placed.

We are still working out the details for how prizes will be distributed, but it is likely that we will lay out the prizes and give everyone choice of prizes by how their place in the "top ten" standings (determined as described here).

My bad.  I realized I never re-sorted the places when I copied them from Rick, but I got it corrected.

Torrey,

Are we going by age-graded or like the previous year? Both you and Rick are presenting the results differently.

Rick is doing age-graded results just for fun.  The official "place" standings will be straight up as I have them presented.  The big prizes at the end of the series will go to the top 5 men and women, as well as the 5 men and women competing in the most races.

The overall standings in post #1 have been updated through race #4 - the Banks Brave Run 10k.  Half way through the series now, and there are a lot of folks on the board so far - but still plenty of opportunities to bump up your place and participation scores.  Next up, the third consecutive 10k in our series - Up the Lazy River in West Linn on Memorial Day.

Torrey, you're missing Lizzie Schilling and John Boone. As far as I know, Lizzie has so far only done Willamette and John only done Banks.

I can't find Lizzie in the membership database, so am assuming she is not a member.  But I added John in; thanks for catching that omission.

The men's scores were all updated since adding in another person changed everyone's scores.  Tight race at the front for the men - Darren and Adam duking it out!

She certainly thinks she's a member. She joined just in time to score in Willamette. She's a Duniway regular. She may be in the database as Elizabeth, or Liz. She was at track tonight, but I didn't see this in time to ask what might be up.

I looked her up by last name and didn't find her.  But I can check in with our membership czar for the full scoop.  Updating results to add her in is easy enough to do.

There was a question about how the results are going to be tabulated, with the "place" and "participation" parts described in the first post.  I tried to add a little more detail to clarify, but how about an example based on what the top ten would look like based on the current results (thru race #4).  Here are the men's standings:

Place	Name Dogwood Birds Will Banks Overall	# Races Scored	# Races Total
1	Adam Divergilio	91.1 100.0	86.7	277.8	3	3
2	Darren Moore	100.0	84.0 93.3	277.3	3	3
3	Daniel Bartosz	82.2	100.0	82.2 264.4	3	3
4	Thomas Fuchs	55.6	52.0	64.4	66.7	238.7	4	4
5	Joe Dudman	64.4 73.3	73.3	211.1	3	3
6	Torrey Lindbo 91.1	100.0	191.1	2	2
7	Brandon Cantrell73.3 80.0	153.3	2	2
8	Matt Rizzo	46.7 60.0	106.7	2	2
9	David Hatfield 36.0	55.6 91.6	2	2
10	David Buczkowski37.8 40.0	77.8	2	2
11	Sam Taylor 68.0 68.0	1	1
12	Steven Woodley 20.0	46.7 66.7	2	2
13	Richard Lovett	20.0 20.0	20.0	60.0	3	3
14	Brian Hansen 28.9	26.7	55.6	2	2
15	Raghav Wusirika 53.3	53.3	1	1
16	Rohit Grover 46.7	46.7	1	1
17	John Collins 37.8 37.8	1	1
18	John Boone 33.3	33.3	1	1
19	Steve Hanson	28.9 28.9	1	1

Determining the top 5 placers is easy:

1. Adam

2. Darren

3. Danimal

4. Tom

5. Joe

Beyond that, we see that Rick has done 3 races, so he would be #6.

6. Rick

The the trick is figuring out 7-10, since we have 7 men who have done 2 races each.  Rather than a 7-way tie for 7th place, we would go from the top of the place list to pick the next 4:

7. Torrey

8. Brandon

9. Rizzo

Make sense?  Then prizes would be selected in that order - although we will also have a top 10 for women as well, and being gentlemen... it would only make sense to let ladies go first.  So I would propose we have the first place woman select first, followed by first place male, second place female, second place male, etc.
