Originally, I had thrown out the idea of heading up to the North Cascades to do some of the iconic runs through the Enchantments. We will likely still do that at some point, but I couldn't justify being gone for 6 days with some other late summer plans that "moved" onto my calendar.
After contacting folks who had already expressed an interest in joining this year's adventure, the destination has now been switched to the Indian Heaven wilderness in SW Washington. Lots of great trails go in/out of this area, including the PCT that runs north-south through the wilderness area. Lots of lakes and berries in the area. The name being a reference to the fact native peoples used to gather a lot of huckleberries in this area (ok, they still do, as there are some areas still designated for native picking only).
The closer location means that we will be able to have some folks be able to join for just the holiday weekend. In order to secure camp sites for the full group, we will need a few people willing to head up early (Wednesday is the plan), but then everyone else can plan to arrive Friday evening and then have 3 days of running before heading home after a Monday run.
The plan is to camp at one of the following lakes to set up a base camp.
or there are a few other options as well. But hoping that there will be space at one of the Forlorn Lakes to fit the group.
We will still aim to limit group size to something reasonable for space and food planning. 12-20 is the target range, and so far the list of folks planning to join is:
- Matt (Rachel's boyfriend)
- Aaron's friend
