Another hijack.

Joe D. and BrianH and I were running Leif yesterday discussing music and comparing concert notes. Another interesting question to pose. What was the first album you ever bought? Mine was "Queen-Night at the Opera."

Foreigner - Double Vision

I forgot the four times I saw James Taylor, the eight times I saw Michael Hedges and twice when I saw Hootie and the Blowfish for free. Ahhh college and ski bum years...

Up until 6th grade(1994) the only thing I ever listened to was the radio and I didn't own any cd's or tapes of anything.
But I finally broke down and bought my first cd which was Vs. by Pearl Jam...When I first heard Ten, I actually didn't really think much of Pearl Jam but once I saw them perform on the MTV music awards with Neil Young in the early nineties right before Vs. came out I just couldn't get enough. I was just blown away by the energy that they showed onstage and the lyrics. Now I am insanely addicted to Pearl Jam and can't stop listening to them. But I'd rather be addicted to a band than drugs or alcohol.

I'll second the Crane Wife recommendation. It's being playing a lot on my system.

While you're at it, check out another great '06 album by another Portland band:
Viva Voce - Get Yr Blood Sucked Out!

Best concerts for me:
Stray Cats - Paris '89
Bowie - SF '96
Jacques Higelin - SF '99

Best concerts for '06:
- A silver Mt Zion @ Doug fir
- Zero7 @ Wonder Ballroom (Thanks Albert!)

Worst concert:
- Tahiti 80 @ Satyricon - Ended up being thrown out by the boucner for picking up a fight with the lead singer. He apparently did not like it when I told him they sounded like French Backstreet Boys.

Worst concert for '06:
- The Streets @ Wonder Ballroom - I do like what they do but that concert was BAD! Sound was terrible. The band sucked.

This album has been getting a lot of positive press. It is a good album, but I was already getting weary of their sound the first time I listened to it all the way through.

This is one of the most awesome things I have ever heard. I wish I was there.

My favorite album of the year (not saying it's the best album) is Camera Obscura - Let's Get Out of This Country. Dulcet.

I've always been an Elitist Jerk. No transition time was necessary.

BTW, if you guys are tired of hearing the same old crap on the radio, check out this band from Iceland called STEED LORD. Talk about a band that would be a blast to see live. They're not joking around. You heard it here first.

One of the most amusing moments was, when halfway through their act, a camp-as-you-like glittered male dancer appeared with a platter of gold chains for A.C to load up on. Done dead-pan and totally seriously, the crowd went wild, cheering and laughing as he loaded up his neck with gold of proportions that even Mr.T would have been proud of.

First tape I ever bought on my own was Quiet Riot's "Metal Health" in the 5th grade. I was so pissed when my little brother let the tape player eat that tape.

My first CD was Tone Loc in 1989. I think I sold that one for $2 for beer money in college.
