Common news in the running arena that Meb is retiring from a professional running career after this Sunday's NYC Marathon. With a silver medal in the 2004 Olympic Marathon, a fourth place finish in the 2012 Olympic Marathon, along with wins at the NYC and Boston Marathons, one would have to put him on the list for greatest American distance runner in history. But that aside, Meb as a person is what makes him a true champion. Anyone who has ever met him will tell you that.
Many of you have heard me tell the story of having the incredible opportunity to hang out, run and share meals with him over a week's period, while he was living and training with the professional group in Mammoth Lakes, CA. It was the experience of a lifetime.
Thousands of words have been written about Meb, the athlete and the person. I came across this five-part video series that Runner's World online has. Here is part one (about 9:00 long). It's worth a look. I'll post up the other parts here when they become available.
